Sailing Instructor Needed for Summer 2019

Little Cranberry Yacht Club Community Sailing & Education Foundation

Little Cranberry Island, Maine

The LCYC is searching for a qualified sailing enthusiast to help teach sailing lessons to children and adults. We are a small club with Turbo 420s, Optis, and Mercury sailboats. Classes range in size from one-on-one private lessons to larger groups of up to 30. Our daily classes introduce kids to the water at as young as five years old and continue through their teens. Adult sailing and boat handling classes also run on occasional evenings.

We are searching for a sailing instructor who is confident and capable on the water—who has the ability to run motorboats and sail independently in a variety of conditions. We need an outgoing and versatile instructor who can lead a group of students without assistance. Our small club emphasizes a breadth of knowledge in navigation, marine biology, on-water skills, and a sense of adventure. This individual must be creative and upbeat to accommodate the changing weather conditions of the day and varying ability of the students, bringing lots of ideas and activities to the table. This individual will be leading groups of students independently, so previous on-water experience, leadership qualities, and strong boat handling skills are a must. While our sailing instructor is required to work independently at times, they will be part of a small team including the executive director and an additional instructor.

Classes begin in July and run for seven weeks, M-F between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Additional duties, including occasional leadership at evening events or private lesson instruction may fall outside of these hours. Weekends are primarily free. Potential assistance in on-island housing for this individual or family is a possibility. Hourly wage begins at $15 per hour. Rates are commensurate with experience.
